The Theremin is a wonderful instrument

I didn't know the Theremin instrument…I only knew that the dark, mysterious style I like comes from synthesizers - the monophonic synthesizer, used in some Portishead songs. 
 

The next song, which is among my favorites, also follows the same style…

Talking about weird bands ...
Some time back, a song of Björk was played.
Björk is from Iceland, and many bands and singers from that country are really something else.
Sigur Ros is sometimes called "The Weirdest Band in the World ...

I thought you might know the band because you also posted some alternative songs...I loved Portishead from the first time I listened it, and it was the song Glory Box.

P.s.: I find it "surreal"...her singing while holding a cigarette and taking a drag when she has the opportunity...

Yes, I have played quite a few alternative songs along the way ... 
I had a sort of 'musical re-awakening' in the late 90's by watching "Alternative Nation" on MTV ... many of the alternative songs of the late 90's were similar to the bands I loved during the late 60's when I was young .. 
Today, I find new music on Youtube, using suggestions, related videos etd.
Not many are interested in indie/Alternative pop-rock, unfortunately - most people I know are either blues-rock or jazz fans .. 

Anyway, the style of Portishead made me think of Cigarettes after Sex - a dream pop band .. 
By a funny coincidence, Youtube suggested a song I have never heard befare .. and in the video, a the girl also handles a lit cigarette - as a way of expressing herself, I guess ...

Yes, @sneræven I also think it's a form of expression. Some actors, for example, are very charming and convincing in some scenes while smoking, and in the case of singing while smoking, it's a way of expressing that they're very comfortable with what they do...even though for me singing and smoking don't go together…

April Wine er et mindre kendt canadisk rockband.
Der er ikke så kendte men fik 21 topplaceringer på den canadiske Top 40 hitliste.
De turnerede blandt andet med store navne som Styx, Rush, Toto, Boston, Squeeze, og Blue Öyster Cult.

De er utroligt velspillende.

Ok bare with me , I'm going to answer bothh sneræven and Rafaela...I love Massive Attack , but Tricky is the legend of that group and it's not bad afterwards, but a little of the magic dissappered after he left. And Maxinquaye will always be in my top ten of fav albums.

 

Tricky of course both produced and dated icelandic Björk of Sugarcubes fame...A break-up he called the biggest mistake of his life. 

Who could blame him...

 

Which leads me to what I'm listening to right now recorded in Iceland and supported by Sigur Ros...

The next is l'Enfant Terrible film director Harmony Korines video starring a grown up Macauley Culkin with then wife Rachel Miner ,although 28 years at the time, he will always look like a kid to me and Korine has this weird but fantastic way of making beauty out of something rather ordinary or even ugly.
