I did not notice they had made a remake of The Great Gatsby. Did you watch it, @Rafaela? Was it any good?

I watched a few movies in the theater last year. One of the better movies was Dune part 2. One of my favorite book quotes is ”fear is the mind killer”. It encourages me to do things I do not want to do or that I am scared of. I miss reading. I think all parents ought to encourage their children to read books. Because as an adult, there are a million distractions and so many other priorities. When videos are expected to be 5 - 10 minutes, reading a book seems quaint. Has anyone read Half of a Yellow Sun? I have wanted to read it for a long time.

Here is a bit of music from Dune and that quote:

  • Thanks for sharing @sneræven  I understand what you mean...and yes, there is a big difference growing up in such different places. The name "Childhood Street" is already deeply poetic…The stree

I saw the version with Leonardo DiCaprio a few years ago, and yes, it is something to watch and if by chance the story disappoints you at some point, because I felt that way at some moments, it is still worth it, because the beauty, costumes and photography transform or “mask” some feelings…:)

And when I see Tobey Maguire in Gatsby, then I remember the music played in Spider-Man...:)<3

Did you ever watch the old version? It is certainly more modern and dramatic than the old movie. I think the key scene is Daisy’s choice. She loved both of them (at times) and she chose the man who did not really love her and that she had drifted away from. I had a look at the same scene from the old movie. It makes it more clear that she chose stability and money. Gatsby made me think of the insane things one can do for a girl, and thus this song.

Yes, that is a fact too...but Gatsby made me think that there are many "layers" that can be analyzed in this story...

The film is an adaptation of a book written a hundred years ago and since then society has maintained its deep-rooted prejudices and they are shown in many details in the film…

She, for example, did not love him and chose Tom because he was born into a rich and influential family. The film shows that there is a difference between belonging to the "natural elite" (include in this education, cultural heritage, legitimacy of wealth, social relations), while the origin and wealth achieved by Gatsby could have been obtained in a dubious way...

I see the love he says he feels, as well as the wealth he has achieved, as an attempt to be accepted in a society that in reality did not even see him, except for the interest in his wealth and what it provided.
The most beautiful and honest feeling was the one I felt in the friendship between Gatsby and Nick.

And now…continuing with the videos, let's dance  to the sound of this wonderful presentation :)<3

Great rhytm in that Santana song. Yeah, it can be analyzed from many angles. It is one of the many books I remember from school.

I agree there are still some of the same prejudices, though I do not think it is as bad as it used to be. Maybe I am just not exposed to it, I do not know. My parents divided everyone up into groups. A doctor was worth more than a teacher, a company owner more than a doctor, etc. They had a hierarchy where europeans were on top, below them followed asians, but asians were subdivided into further subgroups, and so on and so forth. They pretended to accept my ex wife but she did not look right, though she had a good education, job, etc. I felt like applying an appropriate amount of blunt force to my parents.

I love this song, though the original version is more danceable.

Thank you @sneræven for clarifying what Tool is…I hadn't understood  and didn't know the band and although it has its own style, it reminded me of the band “Alice in Chains”, and how interesting that is - Tool's vocalist, Maynard, has a close relationship with the band and was friend with Layne, former vocalist of “Alice in Chains” and have already shared the stage together.

Nice songs and interesting videos, Thanks for the drive-by recommendation, @Stnek.

A girl recommended this song to me. I asked her: where did you learn English? In university, but I quit being a dentist because I earnt way too little money so now I sell candy and soft drinks instead. Only on Cuba do dentists sell sugar for a living? The music video is from beautiful Havana.

Both bands mak "Art Rock" ...
I like Art Rock  bands.
Elbow is one of those bands - they are not 'hard rock'ers like Tool and Alice in Chains, but has classical elements in many of their songs.
Love this one ..

I don't know this band you posted. And in this style, although deeper...I like Radiohead, but I don't listen much anymore, sometimes…because although many of the songs are to my taste, they are also beautifully disturbing because they are so melancholic…It is said that they don't like to play "Creep" but I love the music, just like I like “No surprises”, “Karma police” and so many others…And for me Thom Yorke is “fu..ing special”…:)<3

And a very older video…

I listened to Nirvana once but I cannot relate to it anymore, maybe I became too old. Ana Tijoux has made several stirring songs about being an outcast or downtrodden, singing about subjects like refugees and women’s rights. Here is her autobiographical song, though the lyrics is not as combative as e.g. her song Antipatriarca.

Har lige genopdaget Gustav Mahler, så Døden i Venedig og faldt i svime over musikken (filmen er nu heller ikke ringe og bærer ved til de vedvarende historier om at Thomas Mann var skabsbøsse).

Her noget af musikken:

There is always something that touches me in every musical style, I listen to everything and many songs, even if they are old, I eventually listen to them again…

Hej igen :)
I'm Back!

And to you, my dear @Rafaela I must say that you have an exceptional taste in music - thumbs up!

@latinas4ever og @Rafaela Since you're going out dancing anyway, you might as well make it a bit bossanova–ish, for example to this beautiful song by Sting.

Sting – Fragile (1987):

Driving songs?
When I'm driving I enjoy listening to catchy tunes with a good, steady rhythm — like this one. It was originally recorded by Tommy James & The Shondells in 1968.
In 1987, a trend began in dance clubs around the US where the crowd would shout back obscenities during the silence in the song’s verses. One popular variation of the callback is: “Hey everybody, get laid, get fucked!”

Billy Idol - Mony Mony (Live/1987):

And now to something completely ABBA
When you visit a GP and suddenly feel a bit unsure about the rules — both written and unwritten — you can always start with a game of Ludo

And by the way Agnetha Fältskog (the blonde one ) is MY goddess <3

ABBA - The Name Of The Game (1977):

I really like "Creep"
Looking back, I know exactly the feeling as a teenager of being - not exactly a creep, but a "weerdo" ...
It isn't untill you get older that you learn that your 'weird' sides can actually be a benefit for you ...
I have discovered this in several ways, and I think that is what Tom Yorke actually wants to sy with the song ...
It seems the lyrics have been misunderstood, in some way ...
Unfortunately, my understanding my 'weirdies' didn't save my love life ..
The main reasons why I now visit some girls from time to time ...

L-o-v-e Moby - yeas, it is true, he is very melancolic.
In fact, the music video to "Natural Blues" is the most melancolic video I have ever seen ... guess you know it ...

R.E.M are not as melacolic, but very 'down tempo' ...
This song is a favourite ...

Weee-hah ... velkommen tilbage ...

Thank you @Needy all these songs that I post are in my heart...and speaking of heart, I love this song, was written by Sting and guitarist Dominic Miller…and I agree and identify with the lyrics when he says:

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart…

In general, I think the lyrics Sting sings are fantastic — and he has such a great voice.

Did you know he’s the one singing the chorus line 'I want my MTV' in the song Money for Nothing by Dire Straits? :)

Me too…:) and if Thom Yorke ever felt weird, shy, and that he doesn't “fit” in anywhere, for me he must have been a “cute”  and he didn’t know it…

About Moby, the music “Natural blues” is sad but I feel it like a “prayer”…:) and the music “Why does my heart feel so bad”…I feel like it's sadder…

Yes, I like some R.E.M songs, especially this one

I had planned to write the following just before midnight: ”3, 2, 1…” but you came earlier than expected. Welcome back, @Needy :) I heard from a reliable source that you were in good hands. What was in that coffee?!

Nice song @Rafaela. Me and Needy have an agreement that when he posts a video of his goddess, I have to post one of mine too. Here she is with Antonio Banderas from pussy in boots. I especially like this quote from her song: ”" 'ula 'ula 'ula 'ey! ”

What the heck — is that Karol G singing it? Wow!

I once saw a choir perform this song on America’s Got Talent — I got goosebumps all over.
In my opinion, this is David Bowie’s best song.

Heroes” affirms the idea that things don’t have to last to have value–the lovers won’t be able to stay together, but they’re together for now, and that is meaningful enough.

David Bowie - Heroes (1990):
