Withdrawing cash in Euros

Featured Replies

Skrevet

I have some issue with the exchange rate that my bank offers and i end up paying 300-400 Kr more for getting cash in Euros.

How do you guys manage this? Any help is appreciated.

You should not pay more than 1%-1.5% in exchange rate surcharge and perhaps around DKK 35 in fees to withdraw euros.

But if you withdraw about 30,000 DKK in euros, it will of course cost about 300-450 DKK in fees. So how

I withdraw euros from my own bank's ATM and only pay the bank's exchange rate (no fee), which is the same as if I use the card in euros abroad.

Please note that these are companies that operate ATMs without also being a regular bank, and that they charge a fee in addition to the exchange rate. So the best advice is to withdraw at your own bank's ATM.

Thank you for the advice. I use my Revolut account for withdrawing (secret stash) and probably used a Euronet ATM (due to proximity) so the charges were more.

I can try a different bank ATM and check the charges beforehand. Thanks.

As I read your message you're asking for withdrawing money in euro-countries, so not Denmark. Make sure to reject conversion to the cards standard currency (wherever you pay/withdraw cash). It's crazy expensive to get "certainty" on the cost in your standard currency and as @ToxicWaste mentions the subsequent conversion by your local bank is much cheaper, and revolut is probably even cheaper than that.

Depending on the country you can try to Google and find ATMs that doesn't require a fixed fee per withdrawal to the local bank, but depending on countries it can be impossible to find banks that doesn't charge a fee. As I recall, it can be very challenging in for instance Germany, Thailand and USA (I know the last two are not euro countries, but you get my point).

As you mention... Euronet is convenient but extremely expensive, so a general advice would be to use ATMs outside proper banks.
